Borked

Well1, damn.

I appear to have lost the network on this old Linux box of mine. It's a settings thing rather than a hardware thing because if I boot into a live CD version, it picks up the network just fine.

My latest attempt at a fix this morning was to copy what I thought were all the network settings from the live CD to my computer, but that seems to have failed also. So back to the drawing board.

The annoying thing is that this happened a few weeks ago and I fixed it - but I can't remember how!

I shall write it down this time...

  1. I used to own a Collins Cobuild dictionary, which is different to a normal dictionary in that it doesn't list just the meanings of the words, but it lists them in order of how they are used. So, for example, if you looked up well in a normal dictionary, you might get hole in the ground containing liquid or a normal feeling without any illness or similar. In the Collins Cobuild, the first entry of well is Used at the start of a sentence as a pre-pause event (usually to allow the speaker to construct the answer in their head). Good innit?
