I find it annoying and incredible that the F1 commentators and pundits do not call out the fact that Ferrari cheated last year.
They skirt around the issue saying that they have problems this year, or they don't know what's happened to make the so slow.

I do - They cheated last year, got caught, got away with it (because the FIA is too chickenshit to hand them a proper penalty or ban), and they have to abide by the same rules as everyone else this year - and they therefore, they are massively behind because they'd been getting away with the cheat for so long...

I used to work with a chap called Nick Ellicott. Now, Nick by his own admission was clumsy...

I was just reminded of a day when we worked together in the electronic calibration and repair laboratory at BAE Systems (nee British Aerospace) in Plymouth.

There was a wall filled with racks of small drawers containing electronic components and screws and things.

One day - I don't remember why - Nick and I were fumbling to be first to get to the drawer of ferrite beads, and Nick pulled the drawer out too far and thousands of these ferrite beads spilled and started bouncing across the floor. Nick, trying to distance himself from his cock-up, started back-peddling away from the drawers. However, he stood back onto a low-loader sack trolley, onto which he fell as it started moving. He shot across the lab and the trolley hit the lab door, which was off its hinges, being repaired (or something) and was just leaning against the wall. As the trolley hit the bottom of the door, it made the door fall down on top of Nick and the trolley and the trolley to traverse back across the lab, hitting the rack of drawers and causing almost all of them to tumble forward spilling their contents. It was like something out of a slapstick movie. You couldn't have planned it better.

Dawsy's Birthday

Had a top night out in Bude.

Dawsy and Fifi had to cancel a foreign holiday due to COVID-19, and instead went to stay at a friend's caravan in Bude. So, for his birthday, myself, Kim and Dave Lamerton all went up to Bude to go for a pub meal and drinks.

Lovely evening.

So, I've decided to pause the ads appearing on this website (hooray!), because the benefit I'm getting from them isn't worth the pain of having them - I don't get enough traffic on here to warrant having them.
I may pick them up again in the future if traffic picks up, but for now, enjoy ad-free browsing!

This is a misleading and poor headline from the BBC.

BBC News Headline about Stonehaven derailment
BBC News Headline about Stonehaven derailment

What's the problem?

The train is allowed and cleared to travel at up to 75mph along that stretch of track, so saying that the train had reached almost 73mph is a nothing statement. It's asinine, and it's deliberately misleading the reader to think the train driver was speeding and at fault...

What A Semi-Retirement Job!

Today, on my walk, I met the guy whose job it is to go around all the parks in Plymouth and oil the hinges on the gates!

So, the bloke who oiled the gates in Blockhouse Park today was me!

I fear that we are edging closer to WWIII, which won't be just international, but intranational also - It will be the far-right and fascists against the rest of us.

It will be bloody and it will be extremely detrimental on the population of the planet.

Disclaimer: I don't want this to happen.

I just feel that we have perhaps gone too far down the road. We have Fascist Dictator Trump (impeached) in the White House, we have the rise of the right-wing parties across Europe, Brazil etc. We have election fraud in Belarus.

Putin is the only winner in all of this, but the right-wing sheep just keep on reading their right-wing newspapers and consuming right-wing or state news channels like Fox.

Boris Gump and Priti Awful, along with their goons Hancock and Williamson are fucking up the UK.

Social Media still allows morons like Farage or Coulter or Katie Hopkins to have voices.

I fear that war is just around the corner.

I hope I am wrong.

Something Weird with UK COVID-19 Numbers

Something weird is going on with the UK numbers submitted to the WHO - They are usually submitted early evening, but recently they have been getting later and later.

Now, I understand that we've reduced the number of deaths because we aren't counting those people who recovered from COVID-19 and then died, and that's fair enough. But there's something weird going on still..

The complete dataset can be downloaded here.

Who doesn't like a graph, eh? See the daily updated ones here.

It's been a pretty productive day behind the scenes of this website. I have learned about custom snippets in VS Code and now have written a few short routines that exponentially make my life easier when making posts.

The site is pretty much automated now, with me just needing to do (the hardest part) the writing of the content for it.

If you want to know how I did that, contact me, email me, or leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

Romanes eunt domus

I get that during summer, and especially during a pandemic that's killed >50,000 and counting, us locals in the South West despair at the gridlocked roads, the queues and the general idiocy of holidaymakers descending on us in their masses, but we have to accept that for many people in the South West, tourism is their lifeblood - and they've had a hammering because of COVID-19.

Things like this are just not acceptable.

These businesses need visitors to survive, and as long as they are following guidelines and laws to keep people distanced, they should be encouraged to operate to the best of their ability.

Not the kind of book that would have jumped off the shelf for me, and it took a little bit of time to get to know which character was which, but as it went on, this book grew on me.
It ended up being an enjoyable read, with all the elements of a good mystery (or mistery!).

Lacto-Fermented Garlic

Today is two months since I started the lacto-fermented garlic experiment. I've just popped a bulb into my mouth:

Absolutely Rank!

About a quarter of the way through, I discovered that the jar I bought from Morrisons for the purpose wasn't, in fact, air-tight, and I think that may have been the problem.

But, I've also since discovered that Lidl sell jars of the stuff, so I'll just buy theirs!

So, here are my thoughts on museums and artefacts pillaged from foreign shores:

I think an international consortium of museums should be set up and run for the good of all people on Earth.
Artefacts should be returned to the museum local to their origin. Those artefacts should then be catalogued and uploaded to a global museum website, or collection of websites, where people can search for, and browse museum collections via a connected device.

We definitely shouldn't be holding on to other countries' property just because we invaded them, or we held the Empire, or any such jingoistic nonsense. Give it back, and allow it to be enjoyed by everyone.

Trump and The USPS

Trump's shameless attempt (and admission) to cripple the US Postal Service prior to the election is shameless and barefaced, and it must be stopped.

The Republicans, like our own far-right government, know that they can't win a straight vote. The majority of the country do not want them in power.

They have to cheat to win.

And for Trump, that's done by stopping the postal votes being returned by deadline day.

For shame...

Kamala Harris

Pronounced: "Comma-la" as in the punctuation mark; meaning "Lotus flower"

Way back on 9th May 2020, I endorsed Kamala Harris as Joe Biden's running mate in the 2020 US Elections.

I said, I endorse Joe Biden for President, Kamala Harris for VP and Adam Schiff for AG. And I'd fully endorse a new department for Stacey Abrams to lead - Department of Elections, devoted to ensuring the integrity of the voting process at every level in every state.

Kamala still remains my favourite for Biden's VP pick and he has today confirmed that she will run with him.

I still think the election will be rigged by the Republicans because all the while Trump controls the mail, he controls democracy...

There is a dictator is control of the USA, and the American people are collectively too idiotic (in the true sense) to do anything about it.

We must get Trump out of the White House!
