Purple Haze

For weeks I have been admiring the latest trend in cars which is to have a violet/purple trim along their bumpers etc.

Except it's not a trend at all - just a defect in my car's mirror! Look closely in the images below:

Devon Ranger Day Ticket

I fully recommend just jumping on a train and buying a county ranger day-ticker (in our case, a Devon Ranger) and just going wherever it takes you.

We had a lovely day out with lunch at Exeter, Ice-creams and beers at Exmouth, a ferry trip across to Starcross (Where I believe Taylor swift sang about in Blank Space), dinner at Newton Abbott (The Eastern Eye is the best Indian restaurant in the South West), and then home. All for £16 each (not the food or beers, or ferry obviously)

PC Wayne Couzens

I often say that I'd make a good judge - I remain resolutely impartial. For example, if I was asked to referee a football match between my favourite team and a team I disliked, I would still fight any internal unconscious bias to referee that match with integrity and honesty.

However, I also firmly believe that people in positions of public trust should be held to a higher level of judiciary than the general populous.

For example, PC Wayne Couzens has today admitted the rape and kidnapping of Sarah Everard (I note that he did not enter a plea for the charge of murder). A police officer, in my eyes, should face harsher sentencing than an average member of the public. They are in positions of trust, have extra information, and means to commit crimes, and know the excuses/signs/cover-ups that criminals use.

It's the same with Judges, Doctors (e.g. Harold Shipman), Lawyers, etc. They need to be held accountable with their positions in society taken into account.

I am not involved in the case, so I do not have all of the information available to me, so I won't be drawn into passing judgement or a feeling of what the punishment should be, but with him being a PC, I feel that he deserves a more serious punishment.

First Bee Tickle

I forgot to say that yesterday while finishing the fence, I had my first Bee tickle of the year. A large Bumble Bee cam to see what I was doing and landed on my knee. Then he stayed with me for about five minutes while I tickled his back. Lovely stuff.

Dad's improving every day, and it's such a relief having a fall alarm and care line installed for him.

And Paul has bought him one of those phones with "Bleddy Big Buttons"...

I have finally conquered my Everest!

Note: The may be a tad over egging it...

I have painted the garden fence. The Ronseal (It does exactly what it says on the tin) One Coat Wood Treatment from Lidl (£5 for 5 litres) is awesome and made the work just so much easier - although I do miss the smell of Creosote!

Once the scaffolding for upstairs is gone, my garden will start to look decent again.

I've long said that as well as the information revolution, we are living through the materials revolution. Our ability to create new and wonderful materials is unsurpassed in human history.

And, in the last 5 years, the alcohol-free drinks have come on leaps and bounds...(think back to the awful Kaliber beer and Eisberg wine)

Tonight, I've tried McGuigan's Shiraz wine, and it's bloody amazing - even has the bite of a proper Shiraz!

Not a bad drop at all!

RIP Shorts

While I was painting the garden fence, I apparently made a small rip in my shorts...

Things I feared as a kid but now rarely worry about

  1. The wind changing and my face getting stuck that way
  2. Knight Rider getting cancelled
  3. A swan breaking my arm
  4. Laser beams
  5. Piranhas
  6. Whirlpools
  7. The Bermuda Triangle
  8. Quicksand
  9. Sharks
  10. Square eyes from watching too much television

Now I understand my reason for writing this blog - Apart from some kind of Primal Scream therapy where I scream into the void, it's because I actually enjoy looking back at what I was up to last year.

I'm obviously not the greatest chronicler and I tend to miss the things that will go on to become important in near-history, but it's fun looking back even 12 months.

I must try to make an entry per day - just for myself for next year!

That said, if I do setup my business properly, I will archive this website, and merge Juglugs Ltd with it. I'll probably keep the blog but hidden or on a subdomain.

Dad's slowly getting better - since coming home on Friday, he's doing well functionally. There is still the delirium from the UTI to contend with, but in general he's improving each day.

I spoke to a doctor and they have said that delirium can last 3-4 weeks after the infection has cleared, and it's a non-linear progression - he'll have bad days and good days, but as long as the good days outweigh the bad days, he should be OK.
